What is Dysport?

Dysport, also known as abobotulinumtoxinA, is a versatile injection option used for many different purposes. Administered directly into the skin at several strategically placed locations through a fine needle, the Dysport injection procedure is specifically used to target the following conditions:

● Cervical dystonia, abnormal positioning of the head
● Crow’s feet
● Wrinkles between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines
● Sagging necklines
● Wrinkle lines around the mouth
● Wrinkles on the chest

Currently Dysport is an injection treatment that competes with Botox, and is often used for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows. Patients can typically see an improvement in their frown lines within about 4-7 days of having the treatment. The longevity of the results varies, depending on the individual, with some people seeing results that last from 3-8 months. FDA approved, Dysport injections quickly smooth out skin, leaving it firm and youthful looking. It is a quick procedure with no downtime, causing no disruption in a person’s busy daily activities. It is long-lasting, and if desired, individuals may repeat the treatment after about 3-4 months.

What to expect?*
  1. Consultation
Discuss with us your expectations and whether you have any health conditions or allergies that could interfere with your treatment. It’s your appointment, so don’t hesitate to ask us any questions.
  2. Treatment
Effective treatment requires one injection into each of the five points between and above the eyebrows. Although office visit times vary, the procedure generally takes 10 to 20 minutes. Our specialist will determine the exact placement of each injection to get results that are right for you.
  3. Post-Treatment
Ask the specialist about any precautions you should take after treatment. Call us or get medical help right away if you have any problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing. If one or more of these happen, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities.
  4. Follow-up
To maintain your improvements, you should wait to discuss a treatment schedule with us. As with any botulinum toxin product, you need to wait at least 90 days between treatments. Dysport is not habit-forming, and if you decide not to continue, you will gradually return to the look you had before starting treatment.

*Although the experience described is typical, the general routine at your doctor’s office may differ, and individual results may vary.

frequently asked questions

Botox and Dysport are both derived from a pure form of the botulinum A toxin. When injected into the skin they temporarily relax targeted muscles to fade wrinkles. The results of Dysport are noticed in 2-5 days as opposed to 4-7 days for Botox. Dysport is composed of a diluted solution that spreads more quickly to a wider area so it’s able to treat a broader area with fewer injections. When determining whether Botox or Dysport is best for you, it’s important to seek the assistance of a board-certified dermatologist.
As a neurotoxin, Dysport relaxes the appearance of wrinkles that occur as facial muscles contract. Clinical studies report that Dysport and Botox results last for 4 months, but some patients experience results that last for up to 8 months. Results vary upon the recipient, injection sites and aesthetic goals.
